The bowfin (amia calva) is a pure predator. When dinosaurs were stomping around, the bowfin lurked in the weeds. It’s remained pretty much unchanged since. I have yet to catch one, but when I do you can bet I’ll be keeping my fingers away from the teeth. I made this poster for fun after playing around with wordle and the text from some web articles about the bowfin. I went a little crazy with Photoshop, creating the clouds of blood in the water and the reflective water surface as seen from below. It was going to be simple, but it was so much fun that I couldn’t stop. In case there is interest from roughfishers out there, prints are for sale. Tell your friends.
